ALMONDS

(Prunus amygdalus) Almonds are beautiful ornamentals with their attractive foliage and early spring pink fragrant flowers. They are of the "prunus" genus and resemble a peach tree. Except, you discard the fruit, crack open the pit and eat the nut inside. The tree can be maintained at 15' to 20' tall.

USEFUL FACTS

POLLINATION:  Self fertile.

SUN OR SHADE:  Full sun.

PLANT SPACING:  All in One 12', Titan 15', Halls Hardy 20'.

HARVEST TIME:  September-October

BEARING AGE:  3-4 years.

HOW TO GROW

SOIL REQUIREMENTS:  Well drained soil.

HOW TO USE

IN THE LANDSCAPE:  Fragrant pink spring flowers make it a wonderful ornamental, especially the disease resistant and vigorous Halls Hardy.

IN THE KITCHEN:  Almonds have many uses. The Halls Hardy needs to be boiled and the water discarded to rid it of bitterness.
