The editor Ben Watson added the following comments:
The Apple Grower deals almost exclusively with apples and is written first and foremost for small-scale commercial orchardists, although it has sold very well to backyard growers who want to go deeper and learn about organic strategies. It was really the first book to demonstrate that it is possible to grow good-quality organic apples, regardless of location. It also recognizes the whole IPM-organic question as a spectrum rather than and either/or proposition. (In other words, we worked hard not to make it sound preachy about organic methods. When Michael revised AG in 2005, he included a lot of new information, including the use of kaolin clay to protect against curculio and other pests.
