Pieris japonica

P. japonica ‘Flamingo’

Both beautiful and useful, this shade-loving, winter-to-early spring blooming evergreen shrub provides year-round interest as well as abundant pollen for bees and hummingbirds.

New spring foliage starts out bronzy-red and matures to deep green. Later on, red buds open into urn-shaped deep pink flowers displayed in 6” long panicles. A rhododendron relative, the 10’ bush appreciates shaded sites with moist, acidic, well-drained soil.

USDA Zone 6-9.
