(Salix purpurea) Also called basket willow. This attractive medium-sized shrub with blue-green leaves grows to about 10' tall by 10' wide. It likes full sun in moist soils. Cut it back and new shoots form quickly. The new season's growth matures as purplish-red stems with shiny red buds and the stem color transitions to a light olive-gray on the older branchlets. Stems can be harvested and used in the production of baskets. It is very cold hardy but doesn't do well in the deep South. It makes an informal hedge, Native to Europe and Asia.
(Salix matsudana `Tortuosa') Beloved by florists and flower arrangers everywhere, the Corkscrew Willow contributes young branches and twigs to artistic creations as well as being a great landscape choice for soggy spots with full sun. Tolerant of most soils, it does need ample water. It can grow rapidly to 30 tall' x 15' wide. Roots can be invasive- don't put it near your septic system! 4 inch pots.
