Flowering

Gorgeous and fruitful!

This is an ornamental tree with unusually beautiful bright “green” branches and loads of delicate almond scented flowers. It flowers very early in the spring and can be frosted and lose its crop but not its beauty. In Japan and other parts of the Orient, the fruit is eaten raw, used to scent tea, candied, boiled, made into a vinegar, preserved in sugar or often pickled in salt to make “Umeboshi”.

The delicate, fragrant blossoms are immortalized in Asian art and poetry. Grown from cuttings. Trees can grow to 15 ft. or more. Benefits from summer pruning to shape. Can be difficult in areas with hot, humid summers.
